The issue of single-use plastic waste has become a global concern with significant environmental impacts. The
Palu City Government issued Mayor Regulation No. 40 of 2021 as an effort to reduce plastic waste. This study
aimed to analyze the relationship between the suitability of the single-use plastic reduction policy and the
community’s plastic usage behavior in Tondo Sub-district, Palu City. This research used a quantitative cross
sectional approach. A sample of 100 respondents was selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected
using structured questionnaires and analyzed using the chi-square test. The results showed that most respondents
considered the policy appropriate (70%), had high knowledge (72%), positive attitudes (65%), good practices
(53%), but unsupportive behavior (55%). There was a significant relationship between policy suitability and
knowledge (p=0.006). However, no significant relationship was found with attitude (p=0.253), practice
(p=0.088), and behavior (p=0.150). This study recommends more effective education strategies and policy
reinforcement to achieve behavioral change.
