Background: Nutrient intake plays an important role in adolescent smartphone users and sleep duration to
maintain health. This study aimed to determine the influence of active mobile phone (smartphone) use and sleep
duration on nutrient intake among adolescents aged 10-12 years at Petimbe Small State Primary School. Method:
This was analytical descriptive research with a quantitative approach. The population in this study was
adolescents in years 4 to 6 at Petimbe Small State Primary School. The sample used was 40 individuals, analysed
using multiple linear regression tests. Results: The results showed that smartphone use and sleep duration
simultaneously influenced energy intake, with a significant value of 0.023 (< the significance threshold of 0.05).
Smartphone use and sleep duration also simultaneously influenced iron intake, with a significant value of 0.000
(< the significance threshold of 0.05). However, smartphone use and sleep duration did not simultaneously
influence vitamin A intake, with a significant value of 0.753 (≥ 0.05). Conclusion: This study concludes that
smartphone use and sleep duration are influenced by energy and iron nutrient intake. Therefore, educational
institutions should enhance education on the importance of mindful smartphone use and sleep patterns to avoid
negative impacts on adolescent consumption habits.
