Socio-Cultural Relationship and the Choice of Long-Acting Reversible Contraception in Fertile Age Couples

Background: The Family Planning Program (KB), particularly Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC), is one of the government’s efforts to reduce birth rates and improve maternal and child health quality. However, the selection of LARC methods is influenced by socio-cultural factors within the community. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between socio-cultural factors and the selection of long-term contraceptive methods among couples of reproductive age in the working area of Kamonji Public Health Center, Palu City. Methods: This study used an analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 3,570 couples of reproductive age, with a sample of 67 respondents selected using a consecutive sampling technique. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Results: The analysis showed that among respondents with socio-cultural conditions that did not support the use of LARC, the majority (19 respondents, 95.0%) did not choose LARC. Meanwhile, among respondents with socio-cultural conditions that supported the use of LARC, the majority (46 respondents, 95.7%) chose to use LARC. The p-value was 0.000, indicating a significant relationship between socio-cultural factors and the selection of LARC. Conclusion: Socio-cultural aspects play an important role in determining the decisions of couples of reproductive age regarding the use of long-term contraceptive methods in the working area of Kamonji Public Health Center, Palu City.
