The Level of Knowledge and Skills of Midwives in Managing Pre-eclampsia Emergencies at Singgani Public Health Center, Palu City

Abstract

Preeclampsia is one of the leading causes of maternal morbidity and mortality, requiring prompt and appropriate management by healthcare providers, especially midwives in primary care settings. This study aimed to determine the level of knowledge and skills of midwives in managing preeclampsia emergencies at Singgani Public Health Center, Palu City. This research used a descriptive quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of all 30 midwives working at Singgani Public Health Center, selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire to assess knowledge and an observation checklist during preeclampsia emergency management simulations. Data were analyzed using frequency distribution and percentages. The results showed that 60% of midwives had a good level of knowledge, 30% moderate, and 10% poor. Meanwhile, midwives’ skills in handling preeclampsia emergencies were categorized as good in 50% of respondents, moderate in 40%, and poor in 10%. These findings indicate a gap between knowledge and practical skills. In conclusion, most midwives demonstrated good knowledge, yet their practical skills still need improvement. It is recommended to provide continuous training and regular simulation practices to enhance midwives’ competencies in managing preeclampsia emergencies.
