The quality of well water in the Talise Health Center Subdistrict area often does not meet health standards due to high levels of iron (Fe) and water hardness (CaCO₃). Excessive concentrations of iron and hardness can have negative impacts on public health. Therefore, there is a need for alternative filtering media that are affordable, easily accessible, and effective. One potential solution is the use of household waste, such as chicken and duck eggshells, as natural adsorbent materials. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of chicken and duck eggshells in reducing iron (Fe) and hardness (CaCO₃) levels in well water in the Talise Subdistrict. This research is a quasi-experimental study using a two-group posttest-only design. Water samples were collected from the Talise Health Center area and analyzed at the Undata General Hospital Laboratory. The treatment involved adding 5 grams, 8 grams, and 11 grams of chicken and duck eggshells to the water samples. Data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive methods and tested using the Paired T-Test to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. The results showed that duck eggshells were the most effective in reducing both iron and water hardness levels, particularly at the 11-gram dosage. Iron levels decreased by up to 68.4%, and hardness levels also showed a significant reduction. The Paired T-Test yielded a p-value of 0.000, indicating a statistically significant difference before and after treatment. Eggshells—especially duck eggshells—are proven to be effective in reducing iron (Fe) and water hardness in well water. They can be utilized as a safe, affordable, and environmentally friendly natural alternative for household water treatment.
