Risk Factors For Leprosy In The Working Area Of West Ampana Community Health Centre

Abstract

Background: Workplace accidents are incidents that occur at work, including accidents that happen during the Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease that remains a public health problrm in Indonesia, including in the working area of ​​the West Ampana Community Health Centre. This disease can cause disabilities if not properly treated. This study aims to analyze the risk factors that contribute to the incidence of leprosy, including personal hygiene, history of contact with leprosy patients, and housing density. This research applied an analytical survey method with a case-control design. The study sample consisted of 60 respondents, including 30 leprosy patients as the case group and 30 healthy individuals as the control group. Data were collected through interviews using questionnaires and direct observation. The results showed that personal hygiene was not a risk factor for leprosy (OR = 1.000). Interestingly, a history of contact with leprosy patients had a protective effect (OR = 0.483), while housing density was proven to be a risk factor with (OR = 1.147). The conclusion of this study indicates that housingl density is the main factor influencing the incidence of leprosy in this area. Therefore, efforts are needed to raise about importance of environmental management and healthy living conditions to reduce the spread of leprosy.
