Factors Associated With Workplace Accidents At PT Arkan Bara Mandiri Buluri Sub-District Palu City

Abstract

Background: Workplace accidents are incidents that occur at work, including accidents that happen during the commute from home to the workplace or vice versa. This study aimed to identify the factors associated with workplace accidents at PT Arkan Bara Mandiri in Buluri Sub-District, Palu City. Method: This research used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 60 workers selected based on the population size and characteristics across three worksites: the crusher unit, workshop, and welding section. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analysed using the chi-square test. Results: The findings indicated that age, length of service, education level, and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) were associated with workplace accidents. The chi-square test yielded a p-value of 0.000. Since the p-value < 0.05, the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) was accepted. This meant there was a significant relationship between age, length of service, education level, PPE usage, and the occurrence of workplace accidents at PT Arkan Bara Mandiri in Buluri Sub-District, Palu City. Conclusion: The study concludes that there is a correlation between these factors and workplace accidents at PT Arkan Bara Mandiri. Further research is recommended, incorporating additional variables for a more comprehensive analysis.
